We had a little joke at Camp Flex & Flow this summer that every other sentence started with "My therapist says..."
Joking-not-joking because campers agree: therapy is 💯
And there's something my therapist said that keeps running through my head, especially in this season when both the news and my kids' school drop-offs are full of sound and fury.
My therapist said,
"Exercise is the single best thing you can do for your mental health."
If you're reading this, chances are this is not news to you. Chances are you're aware of just how much movement can brighten your mood and your day and keep you, well, moving.
Moving through and past whatever comes your way. Whatever surprises or disasters that 2021 still has up its sleeve.
Sometimes we get lost in the minutiae of fitness: in tracking paces or calories or stressing about which move will best target our obliques.
And beyond all of that—looking away from the Garmin, zooming out from the apps—there's a profound generosity in showing up.
Because there's no greater gift than you showing up as the fullest YOU there is.
This is all to say: you're doing GREAT. Celebrate that gift you're giving to yourself and to the people in your life and give yourself a hearty pat on the back for showing up in the way that you do.
As my therapist (and the whole team) says, "keep on moving,"

Sometimes movement alone isn't enough. If you need a therapist to call your own, there are so many of us who would gladly share our experiences and pass along names & numbers. If you're not sure where to get started, just email us: hi AT flexandflow.org. ❤️
